A Hymn of Remembrance

Read Now

Picture
This is a metaphorical hymn written for a homeless man who died in New Orleans. He didn't get to have much of a funeral.

River's End
The mighty Mississippi, flows to the sea
It has little regard for me
Fresh runs salty, as it is meant to be
This winding river leads us home

Some journeys take a lifetime
Others drift away too soon
Some bitter sweet and often broken

And yet what remains
Is that the time along the way
Be cherished, lived, and not forgotten

What can I do, to rescue you?
What can I say? My words seem too late.
So until the river leads to where you’ve been,
I’ll live with your memory, my friend

Children’s smiling faces
Laughter glides upon the wind
They're running free without a care

I imagine that was you, so many years ago
Before the storms, before the trials
Now left all alone, Your Jericho road
Lacked one good Samaritan

What can I do, to rescue you?
What can I say? My words seem too late.
So until the river leads to where you’ve been,
I’ll live with your memory, my friend

So until the river leads to where you’ve been,
I’ll cherish you, your memory, my friend
